A ROW has erupted over a Conservative leaflet sent to homes in Romsey Extra.
There are seven seats on the parish council up for grabs but the Tory leaflet implied there were only four – which is the exact number of candidates they are fielding.
Opposition parties believe it was a deliberate act by the Conservatives to gain seats in tomorrow’s Romsey Extra Parish Council election.
Lib Dem candidate John Parker said: When the Conservative leaflet was drawn to my attention I was struck by the implication that voters only had four votes for Romsey Extra Parish Council. The wording seems to be deliberate political deception, trying to dissuade voters from exercising their full voting rights.
After complaining I was advised by the Conservative agent that it had been corrected in their next leaflet.”
Romsey Conservative parliamentary agent David Drew confirmed that the wording on the leaflet had been brought to his attention and that a clarification would be printed in their next leaflet so it was clear that seven seats were up for election.
