MOST families who take their children out in their buggies usually opt for a leisurely walk through a park but one Southampton family will be dashing towards the finishing line when they take part in a fundraising run for a heart charity.

Lisa and Nathan Carr will be pushing their two sons in their buggy as they take part in this year's British Heart Foundation, Hearts First Jog the Southampton Sprint, which is being held on Southampton Common on May 9.

The Carr family have a personal reason for taking part in the jog, as one of their sons was born with a heart defect, which was detected at Lisa Carr's 21-week antenatal scan.

Lisa said: "The BHF and the heart nurses they fund in Southampton have been a great help to us in the past, and continue to be a great source of support in my son's daily care.

"We are taking part in the Southampton Sprint to give something back. I would urge local people to get involved, it will be a really fun event and all money raised will mean the BHF can continue their vital work"

Lisa ran the Southampton Sprint last year and raised more than £500 for the BHF, making her the highest individual sponsor at the event, but she is keen to raise more funds this year.

She is especially keen to hear from local businesses who feel they would be able to help with sponsorship and has asked anyone who knows her or would be interested in sponsoring her family to get in touch on 07825 501032 or e-mail her at lisa.carr1@googlemail.com.
