Southampton's three political parties have joined the fight to get knives off the streets - calling for a zero tolerance approach.
Top politicians from the Labour, Lib Dem and Conservative parties have all thrown their weight behind our campaign, following the death of teenager Lewis Singleton.
The 18-year-old died from stab wounds exactly a week ago today following a disturbance in Obelisk Road in Woolston during the early hours of the morning.
The Daily Echo has now taken a stand against the growing number of people who appear to be carrying blades.
Backed by Hampshire police and city MP John Denham, all three political parties in the city have also lent their support.
Lib Dem council leader Adrian Vinson said: "Carrying knives is totally unacceptable, as is carrying any weapon on our streets. The consequences are what we have seen lately - and are obviously devastating."
Royston Smith, deputy leader of the Tory party, added; "There is absolutely no question that this campaign has our full support. The sooner sentences reflect the seriousness of carrying knives the better the situation will become.
June Bridle, leader of the Labour group, said there needed to be a zero tolerance approach in the city.
"I am sure that unfortunately, Southampton is no different to any other major city when it comes to this. I applaud the Daily Echo's approach."
