LONG established city marine services firm Williams Shipping named its new flagship Willendeavour at a ceremony held in Southampton docks.
Built in Holland by Neptune Marine Services, the 22m workboat is designed for a broad range of roles, from towing to civil engineering, diving and dredging support, oil spill exercises and survey work.
Willendeavour's first work will be with Southern Water's £2.1m project to extend water pipelines across the Solent and secure water supplies to the Isle of Wight.
A 150mm pipeline is being laid across the Solent and Williams Shipping has been involved with the laying of sections from Lepe, near Calshot, to Gurnard, near Cowes.
A spokesman for the family-owned firm said: "We are delighted with the vessel and our thanks to Neptune for such excellent craftsmanship."
