A FIVE-METRE sinkhole suddenly appeared and forced a road to close.
Police have closed the street this morning after the incident, which is causing delays to traffic and diversions to bus routes.
The road damage was discovered yesterday on Beachfield Road, Sandown, on the Isle of Wight.
On social media the Isle of Wight’s official highways sent a tweet saying: “A sinkhole has appeared outside the post office in Beachfield Road, Sandown.
“The road will have to be closed until further notice.”
Police closed the road between the junctions with Melville Street and the A3055 Broadway.
