THE Hampshire boy who was left with horrific injuries after being trapped under a bus has been dubbed a miracle' by doctors who have been amazed by the speed of his recovery.
After just two weeks, Sam Demarco was recovering at home despite suffering from serious pelvic and leg injuries after he was trapped under a 20-tonne double-decker bus on March 12.
The 15-year-old's injuries were so serious that he was rushed by air ambulance to hospital from the scene of the incident outside Hamble Sports Community College.
Sam was taken to Salisbury District Hospital, as it is the nearest hospital to have a landing pad for the helicopter, where he was treated for a broken leg, broken ankle and a fractured pelvis.
However after just 14 days Sam had made such a remarkable recovery that doctors were able to send him home, four weeks earlier than expected.
Sam was hit by the bus as he was leaving school for the day. His mum, Odette, had seen the ambulances outside the school as she was returning to their Netley home but was unaware Sam was involved.
Odette, 37, of New Road, said: "I saw all the ambulances and I remember thinking how much I hoped nobody was badly hurt. I never thought it could be Sam.
"When I got the phone call I rushed to the school, I just wanted to see him and I started to get really frustrated when I could not get near him. Doctors estimated that he would be in hospital for up to eight weeks but Sam made such a great recovery that after just two weeks they allowed him to go home.
"They were amazed by his speedy recovery and we all agreed that it was a miracle that not only he survived but that he recovered so quickly.
"It is amazing considering all that he went through and he is really, really lucky to be alive. He is a very lucky young man. It is nice to know that so many people cared. It was really nice, even people who did not know Sam, were leaving messages on the Daily Echo website.
"We would like to thank everybody who sent their best wishes, as well as the emergency service, staff at the hospital and friends and family, who have all helped enormously."
Sam who still requires medication and lots of rest is happy to be home again.
