THE majestic Red Arrows will be flying over the South today, on the same weekend a fun day is held in their honour.

The Bournemouth Aviation Museum and Bournemouth Red Arrows Association Fun Day today, which runs from 10am at the museum on Merritown Lane.

As an added bonus for fans of the world-famous aircraft, the Red Arrows are set to use Bournemouth Airport as their base at the weekend, arriving at 2.46pm on Sunday. They are then set to leave and return to Dorset after performing at Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Entertainment during the fun day will include tombola, stalls, bouncy castle and an open cockpit of the Vulcan at Bournemouth Aviation Museum, in aid of The Jon Egging Trust. The charity was set up in memory of the Red Arrows pilot who died during Bournemouth Air Festival in 2011.

Terry Trevett, chairman of the Bournemouth Red Arrows Association, said: "We are trying to make sure that the memory of the Red Arrow, Jon Egging, is not forgotten.

"The aim of the day is to perpetuate the memory of a very good friend and to try and raise some funds for The Jon Egging Trust."

Mr Trevett said that the event will be on a smaller scale than last year, having been organised in the space of two weeks, but he hopes as many people as possible will come along and join in the fun.

The Red Arrows will arrive at Bournemouth Airport at 2.46pm on Sunday after flying from Luxeuil-les-Bains in France, before leaving again at 5.18pm for a display at Goodwood Festival of Speed.

They will return to Bournemouth Airport at 6.01pm on Sunday and will be stationed there overnight before leaving the area at 12.45pm on Monday to arrive in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis for 2pm ready for an aerobatic display later that day.

Members of the Bournemouth Red Arrows Association meet on the second Tuesday of every month at Bournemouth Flying Club Cafe at 7.30pm and new members are always welcome.

Share article Admission to the fun day is £6 per adult and £3 per child, which is the standard entry fee for Bournemouth Aviation Museum.
