A FORMER Southampton social club has been devastated by fire after a late-night blaze tore through the building.
Firefighter crews from St Mary’s and Redbridge Station rushed to the scene of the large fire at Shirley Warren Social Club on Warren Crescent at about 2am.
The Daily Echo understands that in total six fire engines and two aerial platforms were called to help extinguish the fire and make the scene safe.
No-one was injured in the incident, which seriously damaged both floors of the building.
A Hampshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “They were pumping water onto it from about 2am and there’s still an aerial appliance and pumps on the scene at the moment cooling hotspots.
“We are looking into whether or not there will be a further investigation and we are in discussions with police.”
The social club was used as a regular venue for functions but closed at the beginning of March this year.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Hampshire Constabulary on 101.
