WARNINGS have been issued about a rogue batch of Ecstasy tablets being peddled across Hampshire following the death of a woman just hours after taking a pill.

Detectives fear versions of the drug which carry an image of two cherries hanging from two leaves are extremely dangerous.

Dawn Rennie, 37, Woodlands Way, Bursledon, died on Saturday morning after taking a tablet the night before.

It is believed she swallowed the pill at around 11pm on Friday evening, but within two hours she was vomiting so went to bed.

She was discovered to be limp at 4am, and was taken by ambulance to Southampton General Hospital, where, despite the efforts of medics, she died at around 6am.

A 51-year-old Bursledon man, who was arrested on suspicion of supplying a Class A drug, has been bailed, pending further inquiries, until May 8.

Police are conducting urgent tests on the type of pill Ms Rennie swallowed to find out what is in them.

Officers are urging members of the public to be wary of the potentially dangerous batch of pills.

The reverse side of the tablets are plain with a line through the centre.

Detective Inspector Linda Howard, of Eastleigh police, said: "These tablets should be treated with extreme caution. We are awaiting chemical analysis of the tablets, but people should exercise extreme care."
