THE first of six public meetings will take place today for people to find out more about the different organisations that want to run Southampton's proposed two new secondary schools.

It will take place at Oaklands Community School in Fairisle Road, starting at 6.30pm.

Six different organisations will give presentations outlining their plans for the two new schools and there will be a question and answer session afterwards.

Representatives from Oasis Community Learning, the United Learning Trust, the Southampton Education Trust and the Centre for British Teachers will all give presentations outlining their plans for the two new schools.

The meetings are part of a six-week consultation into proposals to close Millbrook Community School, Oaklands Community School, Grove Park Business and Enterprise College and Woolston School Language College.

In their place they want to create two new schools on the Oaklands and Grove Park sites as part of their revamp of secondary education designed to remove about 1,000 surplus places and raise standards.

Another public meeting will take place tomorrow at Grove Park Business and Enterprise College.
