THE countdown has begun to one of the most glamorous events in Southampton's social calendar.
The finals of Miss Southampton 2007 are just days away - and more than 20 girls are currently in the line-up to become the face that represents the city.
This year's competition, decided at a prestigious black-tie event at St Mary's Stadium, has attracted young women from across the south coast, all hoping to take the crown for the city and win a place in the Miss England finals in June.
As well as choosing the next female face to represent the city, on Thursday, May 3, the event will also see the crowning of Mr Southampton.
This year's beauty pageant winners will take over from Miss Southampton 2006 Joanne Jones and Mr Southampton Warren Harvey, who also went on to win the Mr England crown.
Joanne said the past year had been a great experience for her.
"I have had such an amazing time meeting so many people," she said. "Everything from opening restaurants to being recognised by people as Miss Southampton has all made it a very good year."
Joanne, 19, who is currently studying fashion design, will also be judging on the night, alongside Saints captain Claus Lundekvam and acting Southampton Football Club chairman Leon Crouch.
Lee Collier, of organisers Modelhub, said this year was going to be the most impressive ceremony yet.
"It's looking like a really big night and, as well as supporting The Lucie Blackman Trust, we also aim to make a lump sum donation to The Hampshire Autistic Society."
Tickets cost £45 and include a three-course meal and a donation to the Lucie Blackman Trust. Call Modelhub on 0870 749 4172 or e-mail info@modelhub.co.uk.
