ANOTHER 77 homes will be built in Winchester on land formerly owned by Hampshire County Council.
Developers Kingsoak have been given permission to build dwellings, plus car parking, on the site of Winton House, in Winton Close, off Andover Road.
Eight letters of objection were received with complaints about increased traffic at peak times and the potential for noise and nuisance from the swimming pool on the site.
Ian Parker, from the county council's estates department, said: "Winton House was sold by the county council as it no longer suited the sort of services Hampshire County Council needs or wishes to provide."
Graham Beck, speaking on behalf of the applicant, said the pool would be refurbished, managed by the Westgate School and available for other schools to use.
He said: "Not only have we had to comply with Hampshire County Council's development brief, but the equally high standards of Winchester City Council.
"There has been extensive consultation, including an exhibition. This is in compliance with planning policies and density and is in compliance with parking needs and contains 40 per cent affordable housing. In my view it enhances this part of Winchester."
