POLICE are continuing their investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding reports of a series of gunshots being heard in a Southampton neighbourhood.
Firearms officers found a bullet after scouring a section of the Ivanhoe Road and Wilton Gardens area of Upper Shirley.
They cordoned off the area after residents reported hearing the gunfire at 11.15pm on Thursday night and removed the cordon at 4.30pm on Friday.
Detective Inspector Craig Dibdin, leading the investigation codenamed Operation Grampian, said: "We have carried out a full forensic investigation.
"We are investigating an incident that involved the discharge of a firearm."
Police are continuing house-to-house inquiries and looking at CCTV footage.
It is believed the person responsible for firing the gun may have driven off afterwards. There were no reports that anyone suffered any injuries. Call Shirley CID on 0845 045 4545 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
