IT'S the time of year when all things film are celebrated in Southampton.

The eight annual Southampton Film Week kicks off tomorrow with a host of silver screenings taking place in venues around the city.

And here's the full list of what's going on for all the film fanatics out there.

Saturday October 31

  • The R&B Feeling

The R&B Feeling (2015) Director: Nathaniel Mellors, Marcus Werner Hed Language: English 70 mins The R&B Feeling is a film about the eccentric artist Bob Parks: his outrageous performances, his fall from grace, his complex relationships, his fight for recognition and the tragedy that goes on to remake his career.

  • Budgeting and Scheduling: Producing Workshop by Alec Christie

Time: 10am - 5pm

In this workshop Alec Christie (Mister John 2013) will detail how scripts can be analysed and processed to ensure you have an adequate budget and schedule.

  • Frankenweenie - Kids’ Club Halloween Dress-Up Special

Time: 10.30am

In 1984, just prior to his first feature, Tim Burton made a short film about young Victor, his homemade horror movies and his dog Sparky.

Twenty-eight years on, Burton resurrected it as a full-length animation. Injured by a speeding car, poor Sparky is restored to health by Victor in the only way he knows how.

But now sporting a bolt through his neck, the dog has mutated into a right little monster, and Victor has his work cut out to convince his terrified neighbours that Sparky means them no harm.

  • A Nightmare on Elm Street - Halloween Screening

Several people are hunted by a cruel serial killer who kills his victims in their dreams in Wes Craven’s classic.

When the survivors are trying to find the reason for being chosen, the murderer won’t lose any chance to kill them as soon as they fall asleep.

Sunday November 1

  • Me to Me: Directing Workshop with Patrick Tucker

Time: 10am - 5pm

Venue: Sonar Cinema, Southampton Solent University

After Patrick Tucker’s first shoot during his initial training course at the BBC in 1976, he was so annoyed at not being absolutely wonderful that he wrote a rude letter to himself, outlining all his mistakes and faults!

Finding this a valuable exercise for self-improvement, Patrick has done this subsequently after every shoot he has completed. These notes form the basis of his popular workshop From Me to Me.

  • La Passion de Jeanne D’Arc

Time: 7.30pm

When Carl Dreyer’s La Passion de Jeanne d’Arc was released in 1928 it caused a minor scandal. Condemned unseen in France, vilified by Catholic authorities, and even banned in England for its depiction of English soldiers, it is now recognised as a cinematic masterpiece.

The superb Orlando Consort provide live accompaniment for this silent classic with an original medieval score, bringing the sound of the 15th century to life.

Monday November 2

  • Malcolm McLaren Night!

To coincide with the exhibition Eyes for Blowing up Bridges, currently showing at the John Hansard Gallery, Malcolm McLaren Night will give the unique opportunity to watch two films made by Malcolm McLaren which reflect his life-long obsession with art, music, fashion and pop culture.

The two films that are being shown as part of Malcolm McLaren Night are Paris and Duck Rock. Both are fantastic examples of his maverick style of mixing and reshaping existing material into new and exciting experiences.

  • Macario

The life of poor, hungry peasant Macario changes when his wife cooks a turkey for him on the Day of the Dead and the Devil, God, and Death try to join the feast.

This wonderful classic is The Phoenix Film Society’s contribution to University of Southampton’s Mexico Week.

Tuesday November 3

  • Listen To Me Marlon

Famously taciturn throughout his life and even a recluse in his later years, Marlon Brando nevertheless kept an intensely personal audio diary comprising many hours of intimate reflections and recollections over several decades.

Access to these cassette recordings has provided renowned documentarian Stevan Riley with a unique opportunity.

Sometimes using an eerily animated 3D scan of Brando’s head, the film allows us to hear Brando talking about his childhood and adolescence, the development of his acting technique and, particularly revealingly, his troubled and often tragic family relationships.

  • Morgan Szymanski Presents: Sketches of Mexico

Multi-award winning virtuoso Mexican guitarist Morgan Szymanski presents his latest release Sketches of Mexico.

Sketches of Mexico is a hybrid of Mexican music and a collaboration of visual art from over 20 international artists fused together to form a unique visual and auditory experience.
