FIREFIGHTERS were called to an underground fire on a major Southampton street.
The emergency control room for Hampshire Fire and Rescue have revealed they received a number of calls about an incident in Shirley High Street.
Crews from Redbridge were called to deal with the fire inside the manhole which was started by underground electricity cables.
The team were called to the scene just before 9am yesterday and they spent an hour making the scene safe.
