A MEMORIAL stone vandalised on the day it was laid might have to be completely replaced.
Eastleigh council hopes to be able to have the Wells Place stone ground down to remove the graffitti scratched into it.
But if that process leaves too much of a step that would present a tripping hazard to pedestrians then the council would have to completely replace it.
The stone, a memorial to St Swithun Wells - said to be Eastleigh's own saint - was unveiled by Mayor Peter Wall last Tuesday, but vandalised just hours later.
