A SOUTHAMPTON woman has spoken of waking up to find her bedroom was on fire.
Sharon Pearce, 41, from Portswood woke up to find an electric fan had burst into flames and thick black smoke had filled the air of her upstairs bedroom.
"I was so scared," she said. "I can't remember why I woke up early but I saw the smoke and then saw the fan was on fire.
"I just ran downstairs and woke everyone else up to get them out of the house," she said.
Sharon, who lives in the rented house with her husband Lee, 35, said she was lucky she woke up when she did.
Fire crews from St Mary's were called to the terraced house in Osborne Road South just after 7am yesterday.
Paramedics were also called to the scene and after treating the couple for smoke inhalation took Lee and Sharon to Southampton General Hospital as a precautionary measure.
Returning to the home yesterday afternoon, friends gathered to help the clean up operation at the home which the couple share with five cats and three dogs.
