A WOMAN took pictures of herself enjoying days out at football and rugby matches with mates - paid for with the money she allegedly siphoned from her sister who she then attempted to kill, a court heard.

The images were seized by police from Cathy Bartlett's mobile phone following her arrest on suspicion of attempting to murder her elder sister Rachael in a house fire.

Among them are numerous "selfies" she took alongside former Saints reserve player and non-league footballer Leroy Whale.

Yesterday they were shown to a jury at Winchester Crown Court as they were told of Bartlett spending more than £20,000 on football tickets at St Marys which she allegedly paid for with her sisters money - and without her knowing.

The court previously heard how 30-year-old Bartlett is alleged to have torched their mothers home as Rachael, 34, lay sleeping upstairs.

Petrol was found to have been poured on the stairs of the property in New Inn Lane. While Bartlett and her mother escaped, Rachael was left trapped by the flames and had to climb through a Velux window, jurors were told.

Following the blaze in the early hours of April 7 this year, fire investigators called in police and a "tangled web of lies and deceit" by Bartlett was allegedly uncovered. It was the second fire in a month in which Rachael had escaped with her life, after a ferocious blaze destroyed their fathers three-bedroom home in Winsor on March 6.

The court heard how police found Bartlett spent £1,314 on bottles of Grey Goose vodka which she stacked in her fridge and offered to sell to friends for as little as £8 each.

It is also alleged she spent more than £20,000 on tickets - including hospitality seats with free drink and food - at Southampton Football Club, where she created "guest lists" of lovers, friends and acquaintances.

Jurors heard how among them were:

  • five tickets for Saints v Manchester United, costing £990
  • 30 tickets for Saints v Everton costing £6,120
  • Ten tickets for Saints v Crystal Palace costing £270
  • 22 tickets for Saints v Liverpool costing £4,000

The court heard how Bartlett allegedly also bought 20 tickets for Saints v Aston Villa, costing £3,800 - but they were never used as she was arrested.

Jurors heard how officers recovered a "guest list" Bartlett had made for those she had invited to the match against Everton.

During an interactive presentation to the court, details were also revealed about a £2,539.75 Grand Harbour Hotel bill allegedly paid for by Bartlett with her sisters money, for rooms for her lover and friends.

More than £1,400 was also said to have been paid out on tickets for the Isle of Wight Festival, complete with Red Funnel travel and caravans on site.

Prosecutor Charlie Gabb told the court of a Shop Direct bill of £4,000 - again allegedly paid for with Rachael's money - to buy items including several televisions, an Ipod shuffle and IPad Air which, it was claimed, she was giving away to people as gifts.

Jurors were told that even following the fire Bartlett was "unstoppable" as she allegedly cashed cheques from her sisters account for her own gain.

Bartlett, 30, who has been on remand since she was charged, denies attempted murder, arson with intent to endanger life and ten counts of fraud.

Proceeding.
