A PENSIONER who had driven without a full licence for 55 years was involved in a crash in Hampshire, police say.

The incident was one of a number of crashes on the county’s roads yesterday.

Heavy rain and strong winds made conditions treacherous and there were two crashes on a four-mile section of the A31 within hours of each other.

The 71-year-old allegedly told officers he had driven since he was 15 – in 1960 – with a provisional licence and had never previously been pulled over.

A Hampshire Police statement said: “Driver aged 71 involved in minor RTI today only had a provisional licence.

“Said he’d been driving since 16 and had never been stopped before.”
