PENSIONERS living in a Hampshire care home could be evicted and transferred to another complex.

The county council is reviewing the future of the 26-bed Linden House, Lymington, which it says no longer meets modern standards.

The Newman Bassett complex in Basingstoke is also under threat.

A county council spokesman said: "Neither buildings were designed to meet the needs of people who have a greater dependency.

"As people live longer their needs become more complex, necessitating the use of more equipment as well as special beds, which all require greater space.

"Essential modernisation and repair work to the buildings and the need to improve spatial standards would cost well in excess of £3m."

Patricia Banks, the county council's executive member for adult services, said: "These two buildings no longer meet the care needs of those at the home and future service users.

"I will be looking at the proposed alternative care arrangements for current residents that have been put forward before making any decision."

The closure threat comes just five months after Linden House was praised by the Commission for Social Care Inspection.
