HAMPSHIRE was not short of Christmas spirit as the countdown to the festive season began.
The Marlands Shopping Centre in Southampton welcomed families as it flicked the switch on its Christmas lights.

In Southampton, Marlands centre bosses put on an Aladdin theme in keeping with this year’s pantomime at the Mayflower Theatre.
Star of the show Widow Twankey entertained the crowds and helped push the plunger to turn on the dazzling lights, which prompted a massive silver ticker tape parade from the ceiling.
Youngsters could get their faces painted, get up close and personal with a real snake, meet Aladdin inspired entertainers and compete for the best Aladdin inspired fancy dress outfit, won by Dylan Willis-Young, 3.
