A DOORSTEP conman posing as a landscape gardener targeted an 80-year-old woman and stole £130.

The fraudster called at the woman’s home in Lyndhurst Road, Ashurst, and asked for money, possibly after claiming to have carried out some work. He then made his way into the property and took money from the pensioner’s purse as well as demanding a blank cheque.

PC Chris Orr said: “This is a particularly heinous burglary crime against a vulnerable woman.

“We want to hear from anyone who was in the Lyndhurst Road area on saw a man driving a white Ford Transit van.”

The pensioner was unhurt in the incident, which occurred on Wednesday at 6pm.

The conman is described as white, aged 30-35, 5ft 10in, large build with short, light-coloured hair.

He wore dark trousers and a black zip-up jacket.
