HUNDREDS of Southampton residents flocked to the Job Scene Roadshow at the Guild-hall looking for a new career.

More than 60 local businesses and colleges filled the hall at the Daily Echo-backed event with stalls to advertise vacancies and offer advice on career changes to those unhappy with their current job.

The colleges and businesses were on hand giving advice for job seekers on how to approach different companies and find out about a vast range of jobs on offer in the city. Many dressed to impress and took advantage of the CV Clinic where experts advised how to turn it into a stand out document that would improve your chances of getting a job.

Recruitment specialists also ran an interview technique clinic giving prospective employees information on how to handle the most nerve-racking interviews and come across as the right candidate.

Phil Curry, a spokesman for the Job Scene Roadshow, said: "We are quite impressed by the turn-out as we are experiencing a high number of visitors today.

"It's for anyone looking for their first job, a career change or people who have had time off work. Anyone who has got a skill and is looking for a job will find one here."

Michael Rossiter, support manager at British Gas, a big exhibitor at the event, said: "The Job Scene Roadshow gives us a great platform to meet a wealth of different people from diverse and interesting backgrounds."
