POLICE have cordoned off two areas of Southampton following an allegation of a serious sexual assault last night.
A large area of dense woodland was sealed off in Highfield Avenue near its junction with The Avenue, following the attack on the woman.
Officers also closed off a footpath in Shirley Warren leading to the allotments as part of their investigation.
The incident allegedly took place at around 11pm last night.
Forensic teams were today scouring the sites for clues.
Inspector Tony Turner said: "This is an ongoing incident, details of which are not available at present. It is important to stress that it does not impact on public safety."
Anyone who was in the areas around 11pm is asked to contact police on 0845 045 45 45 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
