A HAMPSHIRE school has been left severely damaged after a fire late last night.
The blaze at King's Sombourne Primary School is thought to have started after some old carpets being replaced were left on a security light and caught fire.
More than 80 firefighters were sent to tackle the fire along with ten appliances, and managed to contain the flames before they spread to other school buildings.
This morning a spokeswoman for Hampshire Fire and Rescue said around 20 per cent of the 119-pupil Church of England school had suffered damage, though the main Victoria era school buildings are understood to be undamaged.
