PART of the south coast became a no go zone today after a major cliff collapse.
Erosion brought down a huge lump of the cliff on the Isle of Wight.
Coastguards have issued a warning to the public to stay away from the cliff edge at Whitecliff Bay, after the incident yesterday afternoon.
It comes after Solent Coastguard received an emergency '999' call just after midday, from a member of the public who was at the nearby cafe, when witnessing the cliff fall.
Coastguards also scrambled the helicopter to make sure there was no one trapped beneath the rubble.
Solent coastguard watch manager Nigel Guyll, said: "This a popular location for anglers and I would like to stress the enormous importance to members of the public to stay away from the area as there has been a significant landslip and it has left the area very unstable, with the strong possibility of further slips occurring."
