TWO public meetings will be held this week where people can listen to guest speakers expressing their concerns about the possible creation of academy or trust schools in Southampton.
They have been arranged by the Southampton branch of the anti-academies alliance and the National Union of Teachers. Both meetings will be held from 6.30pm until 9.30pm.
The first will take place tonight at St Mark's Institute in Victoria Road, Woolston.
Speakers will include John Bangs of the National Union of Teachers and Alistair Smith of the Anti-Academies Alliance.
A second public meeting will be held on Thursday from 6.30pm until 9.30pm at Lordshill Community Centre in Andromeda Road, Lordshill.
Speakers will include Bill Greenshields, national vice-president of the National Union of Teachers and former Southampton City Council member for education Richard Harris.
Peter Sopowski, of the Southampton Teachers' Liaison Panel said: "We believe that there is no case for Southampton to have divisive Academies or Trusts, just because Southampton has falling roles and surplus places."
A public consultation into the future of Southampton's secondary schools is due to finish on May 29.
