BETTER community facilities, new drama rooms and improved disabled access are to become a reality for three Hampshire schools.

The county's education boss, Councillor David Kirk, has approved building projects totalling £800,000.

At Brookfield Community School in Sarisbury Green the final phase of improvements for pupils with disabilities will be carried out.

The £287,000 scheme will include the fitting of powered entrance doors to existing classroom blocks and external ramps as well as widened doorways. Two food technology rooms at the school will also be refurbished.

At Lee-on-the-Solent Junior School there will be an extension which will provide a new purpose-built music and drama room.

This £215,000 extension will enable the existing music room to be used as extra classroom space.

A new community suite costing £284,000 will be built at Bridgemary Community School in Gosport.

It will feature a community room, coffee bar, toilets and storage area.

Cllr Kirk, said: "I am pleased to approve these projects, which ensure pupils at Hampshire schools benefit from enhanced facilities to meet their needs.

"And in the case of the project at Bridgemary School not only will pupils benefit but so will the wider community."
