POLICE were called to the IKEA store in Southampton after a woman was seen acting strangely in the store’s multi-storey car park.

A police spokesman said she was taken to hospital amid concerns for her welfare.

It comes just two weeks after a 38-year-old woman from Fair Oak plunged to her death from the same car park.

The latest incident occurred just before 6.30pm on Wednesday.

A police spokesman said: “We had a call about a woman who was seen to be acting oddly. Officers attending the scene called for an ambulance and one was sent.

“The woman was taken to hospital to ensure she was mentally sound. There are no reports of any injuries.”

The first incident occurred on December 7, when ambulances and an air ambulance rushed to the store after a woman fell from the car park.

Her body was discovered on the ground floor. Police guarded the entrance to the car park for several hours, preventing cars from entering while the emergency services dealt with the incident.

IKEA pledged to review the safety of its car park in the wake of the woman’s death.
