IN conjunction with Italian luggage specialists Givi, Norman Hyde has developed a modular hard luggage system for post-1999 Bonnevilles that allows owners of the modern classic Triumph to fit a top case and/or side cases with a potential total capacity of 117 litres.
I'm happy to use soft and/or hard luggage, depending on what I'm riding and what I've got to hand.
However many riders appreciate the security, weather resistance and ability to carry a pillion in comfort that hard luggage provides.
Hyde and his team in Warwick have designed a classic chrome rear carrier rack and pannier frames that can be fitted individually or as a set.
Both items fit directly to existing mounting points without the need to modify the machine and are manufactured in the UK to accept Givi's Monokey system hard luggage, which means that a single key not only locks the cases shut but also secures them to the racks.
The classically styled rear carrier (£105.75 including VAT) includes an integral grab rail which will be a welcome addition for pillion riders.
When a pal gave me a lift on his Bonnie after I dropped off my bike, it had nothing but mud and grime behind the rider's location and I'd have loved a grab rail to cling on to.
The matching 45-litre Givi top case, sufficient to hold two full face helmets, costs £151.57 including fittings.
At the sides are black powder-coated pannier racks which incorporate stems so that the cases do not obscure the indicators. They retail at £145.70 for the pair and can take either the 21 or 36 litre Givi cases.
Owners of the Triumph Scrambler, with a high level exhaust on the right side, might like to hear that the panniers racks/cases may be purchased individually for fitting to one side only.
