A burglar has been jailed for 32 months in jail after raiding a garden centre only two months after receiving a suspended sentence.

Adam Clarke, 31, of Chapel Lane, Easton, admitted burgling Garthowens Garden Centre in Alton Lane, Four Marks, near Alresford, on November 11.

On the same night he raided Avington Park Golf Couse, Lovington Lane, Avington , near Alresford, and stole a set of clubs and two charity boxes to the value of £157.

They were found in his getaway car.

Clarke was arrested after setting off the alarm at Garthowens. The owners disturbed Clarke and one took his registration number as he fled.

He also admitted driving his father's Honda Civic without insurance when he was stopped by police on the A31 at Bishop's Sutton, near Alresford, the same night.

Clarke was also in breach of a two-year suspended sentence imposed at Winchester Crown Court last September, also for burglary.

Adrienne Knight, mitigating, said if jailed Clarke would not be able to see his four-year-old daughter.

He was a weak character who may fall prey to bullies inside the jail.

His offending had been motivated by cocaine addiction nut he had now overcome it, said Miss Knight.

Sentencing, the judge, Mr Recorder Jonathan Barnes, said that not seeing his daughter was very "sad" but he only had himself to blame.

For the insurance offences, Clarke had eight points put on his driving licence.
