THE daughter of murdered Hampshire pensioner Georgina Edmonds told a court how two knives were missing from her mothers kitchen following her death.

Jurors heard how a steel handled pairing knife with a four inch blade which her mother used regularly has never been recovered after it vanished from the kitchen of Fig Tree Cottage.

A second, cheaper knife with serrated edge has also not been seen since the killing in January 2008.

Doddie Edmonds, who was named Georgina after her mother, was giving evidence at Winchester Crown Court as alleged killer Matthew Hamlen stands trial for the second time accused of the murder.

In the witness box, Doddie, who is a nurse, told jurors how she was working and living in Sudan when her mother died.

She told how she last visited the UK in July 2007 and stayed with her mum at the cottage. They kept in touch regularly by Skype and phone, jurors were told.

Doddie was also asked about the contents of her mothers handbag, including a silver credit and cash card holder which has never been located.

The jury was handed a similar one which was recovered by police in undergrowth some time after the murder, but Doddie told the court she was 100 per cent sure it was not the same one as it was not of the same quality or weight.

Hamlen, 36, denies murder.
