WINCHESTER campaigners are celebrating the withdrawal of a plan to knock down a pub and build a nursing home on the site.
Colten Developments wanted to demolish the Stanmore Hotel in Stanmore and replace it with a 65-bedroom nursing home.
On Tuesday, however, and just 48-hours before it was due to be discussed by the council, the developers withdrew their plans.
It was unclear whether it will submit revised plans.
Local residents said they were delighted with the news.
