THREE thugs who attacked an Asian man in a racially motivated attack after England's defeat to Portugal in last year's World Cup, have been jailed.

Dean Bayliss, 26, Marc Kemp, 22, and Terry Zacharides, 27, were out looking for someone Portuguese in the hours after the game when they beat Gurmeet Singh, 22, to the ground in a ''shocking'' attack captured on CCTV.

The trio pleaded guilty to violent disorder and denied it was racially motivated but in an earlier hearing at Southampton Crown Court Judge John Boggis QC ruled it was.

Today Bayliss was jailed for 22 months for the July 1 attack in Southampton city centre, with Kemp and Zacharides each receiving 20 months.

Security guard Mr Singh was knocked unconscious in the assault. He was walking with his brother-in-law, Inderjit Mandair, when the three drunk men from the Waterside area of Hampshire struck.

Jailing them at Southampton Crown Court today, Judge Boggis said: ''Bare-chested, shaven-headed - this is the unacceptable face of football hooliganism.

''You were drunken louts out for violence. The CCTV images were shocking to decent members of the public, wholly unacceptable, ugly and violent.'' Barristers for all three men said they were sorry and ashamed for what they had done.

Prosecutor Richard Wilcox told the court the three men would now be subject to football banning order proceedings.
