POLICE have named the pensioner who died after she was hit by a refuse lorry on the Isle of Wight as June White.
The 75-year-old of Lugley Street, Newport, suffered severe leg injuries following the accident that happened on Thursday at 10am.
Mrs White died four hours later at St Mary's Hospital in Newport.
The refuse lorry driver, a 41-year-old man from Ventnor, has been arrested on suspicion of driving without due care and attention.
He has been bailed, pending further inquiries, until July 23.
Police have renewed their appeal for witnesses. In particular they want to hear from a man who used the same crossing as Mrs White and crossed in front of the refuse lorry.
He is described as white, with white hair and was wearing a blue short sleeve shirt and brown trousers.
