A WINCHESTER classic car enthusiast has been reunited with his cherished Jaguar - thanks to the Daily Echo.

Roger Lloyd, pictured below, was beginning to lose hope that his white Jaguar XK120 roadster would ever be recovered.

The 1951 model, valued at about £40,000, went missing from his home in Hensting Lane, Fishers Pond, when he was on holiday last month.

Following publicity in the Daily Echo, Mr Lloyd received an anonymous tip-off with details of the car's location.

Police found it at a remote farm at an undisclosed location in Hampshire and arrested a 45-year-old man on suspicion of taking a motor vehicle.

The man was released on police bail until Sunday, July 29.

Mr Lloyd, a retired businessman, said: "I'm delighted - it was as a direct result of publicity in the Daily Echo that I got the phone call. I had really given up hope, as the car had been gone for ten days.

"I had even sent the keys and documents to the insurance company. At the moment they can't find the keys but I'm sure they will turn up."

Paying tribute to the police, Mr Lloyd said: "PC Ged Traynor from Twyford station was excellent. He worked for 15 hours on Bank Holiday Sunday, investigating and arranging the recovery and arresting a man. He started at 8am and finished at 11pm."

Mr Lloyd said he had beefed up security at his home with metal bars across the gates and bigger padlocks.
