A PORTSMOUTH fan getting a Saints tattoo for charity has smashed his fundraising target.

James Sullivan, pictured, thanked Daily Echo readers for their generosity as he racked up £300 for Cancer Research and local hospitals.

The 29-year-old from Havant is now booking the date he will have the Southampton badge inked next to his Pompey crest.

The unusual gesture will benefit Cancer Research UK and the wards which treated two-year-old Lola-Mai Burns for kidney cancer.

James told how the Daily Echo report on his campaign last weekend prompted a surge in donations.

“I was up to £100 before you put it in the paper on Saturday, and all of a sudden it went ‘bang’ and I was up to £230,” he said. “It’s got to be Saints fans!”

He told readers: “Thank you very much and thanks for understanding why I’m doing it. Hopefully if you can, you can keep on giving.”

As reported by the Daily Echo, James was goaded into the stunt by Saints fans on Facebook.

At the time of writing James had raised £230 for Cancer Research, £63.50 for Southampton General Hospital and £3.50 for Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth. His original target was £200.
