POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a stolen car was crashed and abandoned.
The silver Vauxhall Zafira was taken from an address in East Cams Close, Portchester and was being driven along the top of Portsdown Hill when the driver lost control at a roundabout.
The vehicle left the carriageway at the roundabout where Southwick Road meets the B2177 Portsdown Hill Road and B2177 Southwick Hill Road.
Witnesses have told police that at least two people, believed to be male, fled from the vehicle.
Detective Sergeant Trevor Murphy said: "I would like to hear from anyone who saw a silver 56-plate Vauxhall Zafira being driven in the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday in the Portsdown Hill area.
"We have spoken to several witnesses who said they saw the vehicle hit the roundabout at about 3am and at least two people flee from the scene.
"Southwick Hill Road is one of the main routes to the Queen Alexandra Hospital so even in the early hours of the morning, there may have been people driving to the hospital who would have seen this collision and could identify the people who ran from the scene."
