THE family of a missing Hampshire man has been informed of a body recovered from the sea.
An investigation is underway after the body of a man was spotted in water off the Isle of Wight last night.
Nitin Woocheet, 26, has not been seen for over a month after leaving a pub in Portsmouth.
The body has not been formally identified but police have informed Mr Woocheet’s relatives of the discovery.
Emergency services were alerted by a fishing boat and coastguard dispatched Bembridge RNLI to recover the body two miles off Bembridge Ledge.
A Hampshire police spokesman said: “Police were alerted to the discovery about 5.50pm.
“Officers are in the early stages of an investigation into the death which at this stage is unexplained.”
Mr Woocheet was last seen leaving the Fawcett Inn in Southsea at midnight on Thursday March 17.
He was described as Asian, around 5ft 7ins tall with brown eyes.
