A CYCLING enthusiast will ride from Hampshire to Scotland and back for Cancer Research UK.

More than 1,300 miles will be covered in June by Christopher James, 22, from Totton.

Chris aims to reach the most northerly point in the UK, Dunnet Head in Caithness.

Leaving from Totton on June 1, Chris aims to raise £2,500 for the Cancer Research UK ‘Beat Cancer Sooner’ campaign which aims to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.

Cycling up to 50 miles a day, his commute to the Woodlands Lodge Hotel in the New Forest has provided great cycling practice.

The hotel has allowed Chris to take one month from work to complete this challenge.

Chris said: “The hotel has backed me every step of the way, they have been a great help.

“Maybe the money raised won’t impact my generation, but hopefully it will help the next generation.”

The idea of the challenge began when Chris’ friend was diagnosed with a tumour.

Luckily, the tumour was not cancerous but it made Chris wonder what would’ve happened if it were.

Anyone that wants to sponsor Chris, a donation box is kept at the Cross Keys pub in Totton.
