A MAN has died after firefighters burst into his flat in a dramatic attempt to save him.
Crews were in a race against time to force their way into a room in Jordan House, Millbrook Road East, at 11.25pm on Saturday night after ambulance crews were unable to gain access.
Now police say the 42-year-old – found in the complex run by the Society of St James charity – has died.
Earlier this morning emergency services said he had been found unconscious and not breathing and were unable to confirm whether he had survived.
But a police spokeswoman said: “We were called to an address on Millbrook Road East at 11.40pm following the sudden death of a 42-year-old man from Southampton.
“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.”
Crews from Redbridge fire station were forced to break into the room after teams from South Central Ambulance Service were unable to get in.
