PLANS to build a crematorium at West End are set to come before Eastleigh planners again.

Bereaved people in Eastleigh currently have to go outside the borough to hold cremations.

It was felt that the borough, with a population of 119,000 should have its own crematorium.

Plans to put it on land near the junction with Bubb Lane and Tollbar Way met with a lukewarm reaction from local residents who were concerned about traffic congestion and that it could pose a pollution threat.

Developers, who maintained that it would be the cleanest crematorium in the world, last year withdrew their planning application.

Following an extensive consultation exercise they vowed to go back to the drawing board to reconsider the design to the entrance of the proposed crematorium.

Now the company Crematoria Management has submitted a full planning application which includes a chapel, seating for up to 96 people, parking for 76 cars, internal roads, footpaths, covered area for floral remembrance, external lighting and landscaping.

The plans will be considered by the Hedge End, West End and Botley Local Area Committee on July 23.
