THE people of Southampton waste £260,000 each year simply by washing laundry at too high a temperature - enough energy to power St Mary's Stadium for two years To raise awareness of this shocking energy waste, a special do a good turn' house is coming to the WestQuay shopping centre this weekend to boost the city's Enviro Day.
Ariel has partnered with the Energy Saving Trust to create an eco-friendly house full of energy-saving advice.
The house will also offer complimentary audits from energy doctors, which could save each household up to £300-a-year. DJ's will give out energy-saving goodies and competitions include the chance to win a Toyota Prius. The house has been designed by TV presenter and eco-designer Oliver Heath and GMTV's sustainability expert Joanna Yarrow.
Consisting of four rooms it shows visitors how they can live a green but stylish life. An eco house makeover by Oliver can also be won at the roadshow.
The Ariel Do a good turn' website also has details of other eco-friendly competition prizes, including an energy efficient Indesit Moon washing machine. For details see www.doagoodturn.co.uk
