ORGANISERS of Eastleigh's major music festival are praying that it will not become another rain soaked Glastonbury.
The weather did not get off to a good start as the town's musical extravaganza, now called Point on the Park, took to the stage to signal the beginning of five days of live music. But the quality of entertainment more than made up for the unsettled weather.
Acoustic Jass opened the proceedings and last night folk legends Waterson: Carthy played The Point while the world's greatest tribute band, The Bootleg Beatles took to the main stage at the Leigh Road Recreation Ground.
Today, ten of the best local bands will be battling it out on the stage in the Battle of the Bands from 10am to 4pm. There will also be stalls, food, children's entertainment, circus skills and a display of sustainability and green stalls.
In the evening The Bluetones will head a great line up including Tuning straight from Glastonbury and critically acclaimed Southampton acts Birdpen and Hijera.
Tomorrow, Eastleigh Mela will take centre stage from 10am. In the evening crowds will be treated to the best world music acts in the UK.
