A security guard was rushed to hospital after a daylight robbery in Southampton.
Emergency services raced to the scene outside the Balmoral Pub in Nursling shortly after 8am yesterday.
The pub was cordoned off as the guard, who suffered injuries to his hand, was taken to Southampton hospital for treatment after the robbery on Romsey Road.
A video surveillance van for Security Plus was also at the scene.
South Central Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 08.21 to the Balmoral Inn on Romsey Road as it was reported that a security guard had injured his hand.
“We sent an ambulance to the scene and he was taken to the Minor Injuries Unit at the Royal South Hants Hospital for further treatment.”
A spokesperson for Whitbread, who own the pub, said: “We can confirm that a team member of the Balmoral called the police and we are now assisting with enquiries.
“No team member or guests were hurt during the incident.”
Nursling and Rownhams Parish Council said that crime generally was increasing, but that Nursling was not an area where criminal activity is high.
A spokesperson for the council said: “It is another sad event to hear. I think crime rates are increasing but I don’t think that we’re necessarily a bad area for crime at all.”
