PURELY personally, I thought the plans for road pricing were to relieve road congestion, writes Tony Long.

Motorcycles are efficient and effective methods of transport. On the road a bike takes up less space than a car and four or six bikes can be parked in the space of one car.

So I hoped that motorcycles would be considered as efficient methods of urban transport.

Then I heard that plans were underway to fit a group of test bikes with hardware to evaluate the efficiency of including them in road pricing.

Like many I'm less than impressed with that plan.

The Motorcycle action Group (MAG) shares my unhappiness and so this Saturday a demonstration run will be leaving The Cricketers in Eastleigh bound for Birmingham to join a protest against road pricing.

All riders are welcome to go along - meet at 8am for an 8.30 start. The run will stop at Chievely services to join other MAG groups, and then head up to the old Rover plant at Longbridge for midday and the 1pm start of the demo run.

Have your say, join the run. Plans for motorcycle engine limiters have been dropped and this might have the same effect on pay-to-ride plans.
