HARLEY-Davidson is well known not just its wide choice of models, but special commemorative issue bikes.

But they've missed a great opportunity for dealers celebrating milestone anniversaries - The Birthday Boy.

I can imagine the bike presented to Dockgate 20 now.

The tank would be custom painted with a birthday cake surmounted with ten burning candles to mark each year the dealership has been open.

The mudguards could be painted with wrapped presents and birthday cards, while the seat could be worked into a representation of gift paper.

But, as always, I've left my brilliant ideas too late.

I'll just have to console myself at the celebration party (July 14, 3pm 'til late) with Starbucks coffee from the refurbished cafe, and enjoy the barbeque and hog roast. As I'll be riding, I may not be able to take advantage of the refreshment from the bar, but I'm sure my share will be taken by the hundreds of party goers.

Live bands and a DJ will provide backing music while the guests rummage through the autojumble, take in the bike show and pick up bargains from the special deals on offers in the showroom.

Throughout the day New Forest HOG (Harley Owners' Group) members and groups from other dealerships will be arriving to join the fun and try and get their hands on a piece of the birthday cake.

I guess I'll have to wait another ten years to see that Birthday Boy on the podium, but at least I'll be able to enjoy the new cafe's fare of Starbucks coffee (and tea) along with fresh sandwiches and - to my delight and expanding waistline - homemade cakes and pies.
