LIBRARIANS who face £1m worth of cutbacks have taken their campaign to the streets of Hampshire.
The county's library staff are petitioning against Hampshire County Council's plans to cut spending on library staff and books.
The council has already announced plans to save £1m by making one third of the county's library staff redundant.
It also wants to save £250,000 by slashing the library book fund.
Yesterday's protest in Hythe, organised by public sector union Unison, was part of a countywide roadshow in the build-up to the county's Library Scrutiny Review, which will assess the overall library service.
The Hythe librarians collected more than 100 signatures from members of the public, adding to the 10,000 who have already signed the petition against the cuts.
Library staff took strike action against the cutbacks in March. About 100 of them marched through Winchester as part of the strike.
The libraries in Hythe, Totton, Winchester, Fareham, Lyndhurst, Ringwood, Fordingbridge, Blackfield and New Milton closed for two days as a result of the action.
