BONDI Rescue star Trent ‘Maxi’ Maxwell has met young swimmers at Oaklands Community Pool as part of their water safety awareness event.
Better known as lifeguard Maxi from Network Ten TV hit show Bondi Rescue, he carried out mock rescues and talked to budding lifeguards of the future who take part in the Lordshill pool’s Rookie Lifeguard programme.
Maxi is in the UK for a week-long tour ahead of Drowning Prevention Week. He aims to spread the word on water safety.
Lizzie Knight, Learn to Swim co-ordinator, described the visit as a real treat for the pool’s legion of young swimmers.
The two-hour visit also included a sale of shark-topped cupcakes and a raffle with all proceeds going to the Royal Life Saving Society.
Maxi is one of the most recognisable and well-liked characters on Australia’s popular Bondi Rescue, starring in ten of the 12 seasons.
Now in his tenth year as a professional lifeguard, Maxi is the youngest ever lifeguard to patrol Australia’s iconic Bondi Beach, starting as a 16-year-old trainee having grown up in the waters around Sydney competing in lifesaving and surfing competitions.
Oaklands Community Pool is a not for profit charity with over 70 sessions in the 25 metre main pool and learner pool open to the community.
