IT WAS golden night for one Hampshire firm which lifted three trophies at the Echo-backed South Coast Business Awards.

SB Joinery from Stockbridge won the prestigious Overall Winners Award, chosen from all entrants shortlisted across the eight categories, and were also named Owner Managed Business of the Year and Employer of the Year.

Appropriately, SB staff attending the awards ceremony at at the Hilton at the Ageas, wore matching gold bow ties, the colour of the company logo. They were also accompanied on the night by the company mascot Baloo, a tiny teddy bear.

The firm had also been nominated in two new categories.

There were Sustainable Business of the Year, won by Nursling-based Dynamic Load Monitoring, and Growth Business of the Year won by Eastleigh-based energy provider Utilita..

Almost 300 attended the event and were welcomed by Vincent Boni, managing director at Newsquest Hampshire, and before the awards were handed out the audience heard from guest speaker, Olympic silver medallist Roger Black.

He ran through some of the highlights of his career including winning silver at the Atlanta Olympics behind the legendary Michael Johnson and being part of GB’s gold-winning 4x400m relay team at the 1991 World Championships in Tokyo.

Roger’s co-host for the evening was Simon Rhodes, partner at law firm Trethowans.

The awards were held in partnership with sponsors Trethowans, Business South and Destination Southampton.
